Mitch McConnell reportedly ‘leaving the door open’ on voting to convict Trump

I’m not going to get my hopes up for this. Mitch McConnell has done the right thing exactly once in his 200 or so years on this planet. Of course, that was when he rebuked his fellow members of Congress on Jan. 6 for vowing to challenge the electors in states Joe Biden won.

It may or may not be a coincidence that Mitch has stopped turning into a sweaty meatloaf since that day. He appeared to have been moldering from the inside out, but perhaps this ephemeral wisp of humanity has forestalled his ineluctable rot.

But maybe—just maybe—he’ll do the right thing again. I mean, he’s on a roll. A kaiser roll that goes great with old dried meats, but a roll nevertheless.

And if Mitch says it’s okay for his fellow senators to dump their piss buckets out on Trump’s head as he readies his victory parade in the streets below, maybe we can get to 17 GOP votes?

I’m not holding my breath, but we’ll see.

New: Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell has not yet made up his mind on how he will vote, someone familiar with McConnell’s thinking tells @jamiegangel, saying McConnell is openly signaling this. “He is leaving the door open,” this person told Gangel.

If McConnell actually does vote to convict Trump (I personally doubt it, but hey, stranger things have happened—such as “Senior White House Adviser Jared Kushner”), I’ll forgive him for one atrocity. No, not scuttling Merrick Garland’s nomination. I’ll never forgive him for that. I’m thinking more along the lines of walking around for several weeks looking like an expired haggis.

It would go a long way toward the unity we seek.

Or something.

why would he not??? why would he let him off…he has nothing to gain, right?
He himself just cheats to keep his seat- doesnt have to worry about the voters electing him in or out..he takes care of that himself

Mitch wants Trump gone worse than anyone… Trump isn’t an albatross, he’s an 8 ton anchor, that will sink the Republican Party and shatter it into a thousand warring factions.

Donald will force every sane member of that party run (not walk) for the Democratic Party, as what’s left attempts to form the new nation “Bat-Shitsylvania”, where tinfoil is the national head dress, and Qanon the national religion.

I saw a very interesting interview with a Constitutional Professor today. In it, she said that the vote to convict *trump depends on a 2/3 vote of Senators “present”. So, easy way out for Hawley, Cruz et al, just stay out of the Senate on voting day. That way, your glorious leader won’t be able to target you. You can still run for Prez without him primarying you. ANY Republican who votes to acquit the orange one needs meet the Devil in Georgia and sell their soul for a golden violin. Bet they can’t play a single note.

Well I do believe McConnell is done with the orange turd and is waiting patiently to flush his ass down one of those toilets you have to flush four or five times to get the trump er rather the shit to go down.
